Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 is the debut studio album by the supergroup Traveling Wilburys, released October 18, 1988 on Wilbury Records through Warner Bros. Produced by Otis Wilbury and Nelson Wilbury, the pseudonyms of Jeff Lynne and George Harrison, the album was recorded over roughly ten days in May 1988 at FPSHOT, Lucky Studios, and Dave Stewart Studios, with each band member adopting a fictional Wilbury brother identity: Nelson Wilbury (George Harrison), Otis Wilbury (Jeff Lynne), Lucky Wilbury (Bob Dylan), Charlie T. Jr. (Tom Petty), and Lefty Wilbury (Roy Orbison).
The album won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and has been certified triple Platinum. It includes the singles Handle with Care, End of the Line, and Heading for the Light, along with Not Alone Any More, sung by Orbison, and Tweeter and the Monkey Man, a Bob Dylan-led homage to Bruce Springsteen. This was the only Traveling Wilburys album to feature Roy Orbison, who died of a heart attack less than two months after the record's release.
