Aerosmith - 1971: The Road Starts Hear, released on vinyl and cassette for Record Store Day on November 26, 2021, is not considered an official studio album in Aerosmith's discography. It is a historic early rehearsal recording from 1971, capturing the band a year before their signing with Columbia Records and two years before their self-titled debut album. This recording offers early, raw versions of songs that would later appear on their debut and other albums, including a nascent version of "Dream On" and early takes on "Mama Kin," "Movin' Out," and "Walkin' the Dog." The album also features "Reefer Head Woman" which appeared on "Night in the Ruts" and "Major Barbara" from "Classics Live."
The Record Store Day limited edition quickly sold out and demonstrated strong initial sales, debuting on the Billboard 200 chart, reaching number 2 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, number 12 on the Top Rock Albums chart, number 13 on the Vinyl Albums chart, and number 19 on the Top Album Sales chart. "Dream On" was a hit for the band, reaching number 59 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973 and re-entering the charts in 2020.
