    The Paperboy is a 2012 drama film directed by Lee Daniels. The movie is based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Pete Dexter. Set in the 1960s in Florida, the film combines elements of crime, suspense, and drama with a touch of Southern Gothic.

    The plot revolves around a journalist named Ward Jansen, played by Matthew McConaughey, who returns to his hometown with his colleague Yardley Acheman, played by David Oyelowo, to investigate a case involving a death row inmate named Hillary Van Wetter, portrayed by John Cusack. Charlotte Bless, played by Nicole Kidman, is a woman who has become infatuated with Van Wetter and becomes involved in the investigation.
