The Green Mile is a 1999 American fantasy drama film directed by Frank Darabont, based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Stephen King. The movie is set in the 1930s in a Southern American prison, and follows the story of a death row corrections officer named Paul Edgecomb (played by Tom Hanks).

The film revolves around the arrival of a new inmate on death row, John Coffey (played by Michael Clarke Duncan), a large, muscular black man who has been convicted of raping and murdering two young girls. Despite his imposing physical appearance, Coffey displays a gentle and compassionate demeanor, leading Edgecomb to suspect that he may be innocent of the crimes for which he has been sentenced.

As Edgecomb and his fellow guards come to know Coffey, they begin to witness his supernatural abilities, including the power to heal people's illnesses and injuries. As the story unfolds, Edgecomb is forced to confront his own beliefs about justice and the death penalty, while also struggling to protect Coffey from the harsh realities of prison life.

The film features an ensemble cast, including David Morse, Bonnie Hunt, and Michael Jeter, and was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. "The Green Mile" is widely regarded as a modern classic and a masterpiece of American cinema.
