Arrival is the eleventh studio album by the American rock band Journey, released on April 3, 2001. It marked the band's first full-length studio album with new lead vocalist Steve Augeri and drummer Deen Castronovo, replacing Steve Perry and Steve Smith respectively. The album exhibits hard rock influences reminiscent of the band's earlier material, alongside signature ballads.
Initially released in Japan in late 2000, "Arrival" encountered a leak on the internet, prompting negative feedback from American fans. Consequently, the band recorded two additional songs with a harder rock edge, "World Gone Wild" and "Nothin' Comes Close," for the US release. The original song "I'm Not That Way" was dropped in favor of these tracks.
Despite reaching a respectable #12 position on Billboard's Top Internet Albums chart, "Arrival" received mixed critical reviews. Critics found the album somewhat formulaic, though they praised Neal Schon's guitar work. The lead single, "All the Way," spent 13 weeks on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts, peaking at No. 22. However, the album itself peaked at No. 56 on the Billboard 200 chart.
"Arrival" marked a departure from the band's previous string of gold-certified albums, being the first since 1977's "Next" not to achieve at least a gold certification by the RIAA. Additionally, it served as Journey's final studio album under Columbia Records, the label they had been with since their self-titled debut in 1975.
