Living in the Past is a compilation album by the British progressive rock band Jethro Tull, released in 1972. The album features a selection of the band's best-known songs from their earlier albums, as well as several previously unreleased tracks.
The title track, "Living in the Past," was originally released as a single in 1969 and became one of the band's most popular songs. The album also includes other well-known tracks such as "Teacher," and "Sweet Dream," all of which had been released on earlier albums.
In addition to these previously released songs, the album also includes several previously unreleased tracks, including "By Kind Permission Of," a live recording from the band's 1969 appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival. Other previously unreleased tracks include "Wond'ring Again," and "Life Is a Long Song."
"Living in the Past" was a commercial success for Jethro Tull, reaching number three on the UK Albums Chart and number five on the US Billboard 200. The album has since become a fan favorite and is considered by many to be one of the band's best works.
