Flags Of Our Fathers

Flags of Our Fathers, released on October 20, 2006, tells the story of the six U.S. Marines and a Navy Corpsman who raised the American flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima and the impact this event had on their lives. Directed and produced by Clint Eastwood, with Steven Spielberg also serving as a producer, the film stars Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford, and Adam Beach as three of the survivors who are sent on a war bond tour, grappling with their hero status. Other notable actors include John Benjamin Hickey, John Slattery, Barry Pepper, Jamie Bell, and Paul Walker. The screenplay was written by William Broyles Jr. and Paul Haggis, based on the book by James Bradley and Ron Powers. Despite critical acclaim, Flags of Our Fathers underperformed at the box office, grossing approximately $65.9 million worldwide against a $90 million budget.
