Shania Twain is the self-titled debut studio album by Canadian singer Shania Twain, released April 20, 1993 by PolyGram and Mercury Records. Produced by Harold Shedd and Norro Wilson and recorded at Music Mill in Nashville, Tennessee, the album marked Twain's major-label debut following her 1991 signing with Mercury Nashville, though she had little creative control over the record's direction or song selection.
The ten-track album includes the singles What Made You Say That, Dance with the One That Brought You, and You Lay a Whole Lot of Love on Me, and features three covers of songs previously recorded by other artists, including There Goes the Neighborhood, first cut by Joe Diffie. Twain co-wrote God Ain't Gonna Getcha for That, her only writing credit on the album. Though it drew modest chart success on release, peaking at number 67 on the Top Country Albums chart, the record was later certified Platinum following the success of Twain's subsequent albums.
