Insomniac is the fourth studio album by the American punk rock band Green Day, released on October 10, 1995. Following the massive success of their previous album, "Dookie," which propelled the band into mainstream popularity, "Insomniac" continued to showcase Green Day's energetic and raw punk sound.
The album features a more aggressive and darker tone compared to their earlier work. The lyrics touch on themes of frustration, disillusionment, and personal struggles, reflecting the band's experiences with newfound fame and the pressures of the music industry. Tracks like "Geek Stink Breath," "Brain Stew," and "Walking Contradiction" exemplify the album's edgier sound and introspective lyrics.
"Insomniac" debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, selling approximately 215,000 copies in its first week. The album went on to be certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), signifying the shipment of over two million units in the United States.
Several singles from the album also charted on the Billboard Hot 100. "Geek Stink Breath" peaked at number 60, while "Brain Stew/Jaded" reached number 74. The album's third single, "Walking Contradiction," didn't reach the Hot 100 chart but became a notable hit on alternative rock radio.
