Dookie is the third studio album by the American punk rock band Green Day, released on February 1, 1994. It marked a significant breakthrough for the band and is often considered one of the seminal albums of the 1990s punk revival.
The album's sound combines fast-paced, energetic punk rock with catchy melodies and relatable lyrics that often explore themes of boredom, disillusionment, and social alienation. It features an infectious mix of power chords, driving rhythms, and the distinctive vocals of lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong.
"Dookie" was a commercial success and received critical acclaim upon its release. It peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and remained on the chart for 70 weeks. The album's lead single, "Longview," reached number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart, and subsequent singles like "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around" also achieved significant chart success.
Billboard magazine recognized the impact of "Dookie" by ranking it at number 193 on its list of the "Greatest Albums of All Time" in 2020.
