Frank Marino's first solo studio album, The Power of Rock and Roll, was released on July 10, 1981. It is the first record in his discography to be credited solely to him rather than to his previous band, Mahogany Rush. The album is known for moving away from the more psychedelic and blues-rock sound of Mahogany Rush towards a hard rock and heavy metal sound, while still retaining Marino's signature blues influences. The album includes the title track "The Power of Rock and Roll," as well as other songs like "Play My Music" and "Ain't Dead Yet."
