The Altar and the Door is the third studio album released by the Christian rock band Casting Crowns. It was released on August 28, 2007, following the success of their previous albums. The album contains a total of 10 tracks, exploring themes of faith, temptation, and the struggles of daily life.

The album's title, "The Altar and the Door," represents the dichotomy between the sincerity of worship at the altar and the challenges faced when leaving the church and stepping into the world. Casting Crowns often focuses on the idea that true worship should not be confined to the church building but should extend to everyday life.

"The Altar and the Door" performed exceptionally well on the Billboard charts. It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the highest-charting Christian album at that time. The album remained on the chart for a total of 87 weeks. It also topped the Billboard Christian Albums chart and produced several successful singles.

One of the album's most popular singles, "East to West," became a major hit for Casting Crowns. It peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart and spent a remarkable 16 weeks at the top of the chart. Other notable tracks from the album include "Every Man," "The Word Is Alive," and "Somewhere in the Middle."
