For Your Entertainment, the debut studio album by Adam Lambert, was released on November 23, 2009, by RCA Records. It is the first album in his discography following his successful run on the eighth season of American Idol. The album spawned the hit singles "For Your Entertainment" and "Whataya Want From Me," the latter becoming his first number one hit on Billboard's Hot Singles Sales chart. "If I Had You" was also a successful single. For Your Entertainment debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 198,000 copies. It was later certified gold by the RIAA for sales of over 500,000 units in the United States. The album also achieved platinum certification in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
