Released in May 1975, Red Headed Stranger is the eighteenth studio album by American country singer Willie Nelson. Considered a landmark album in outlaw country, it achieved critical and commercial success.
The concept album tells the story of a fugitive on the run after killing his wife and her lover. The sparse instrumentation and poetic lyrics resonated with audiences, making it a multi-platinum seller and propelling Nelson to mainstream stardom. The album's title track became Nelson's nickname, and the album itself was ranked No. 184 on Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" and No. 1 on CMT's "40 Greatest Albums in Country Music" in 2006.
