Waylon Jennings' "The Eagle" was released in July 1990 by Epic Records. It marked his first of two solo albums with the label after two years at MCA. This studio album was also Jennings' last to be released on vinyl, though in Europe and through the Columbia House record club in the US. The album offered a mix of fast-paced tracks and slower ballads. "Wrong," a humorous song about a relationship gone wrong, was Jennings' final top ten hit, reaching number 5 on the charts. The album itself charted at number 9 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and reached number 172 on the Billboard 200.
