Lay the Hip is the third studio album by Trunk Federation, a Phoenix, Arizona-based indie rock band, released February 22, 2000 on Plastique Recording Co. Produced by Jim Waters and the band, the album was recorded across two sessions at Waterworks in Tucson, Arizona in August 1998 and August 1999.
The album features guest musicians including saxophonist Justin Berry, cellist Andrew Nickles, and violist Ann Weaver, layering horns and strings over the band's guitar-driven indie rock sound. The band lineup includes Jim Andreas on vocals and guitar, Robert Thwing Smith on bass and keyboards, Jason Sanford on guitar and keyboards, and Chris Kennedy on drums.
