The Phantom of the Opera is a film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's popular stage musical of the same name. Directed by Joel Schumacher, the movie was released in 2004. The film is a romantic drama with elements of horror and musical theater.
The story is set in the Paris Opera House in the late 19th century and follows the tragic love triangle involving a beautiful young soprano named Christine Daaé, the disfigured and mysterious musical genius known as the Phantom, and Raoul, the handsome and charismatic Viscount de Chagny.
The Phantom, portrayed by Gerard Butler, is a masked and reclusive musical prodigy who resides in the catacombs beneath the opera house. He becomes infatuated with Christine, played by Emmy Rossum, and secretly tutors her in music, grooming her to be the star of the opera. As Christine rises to stardom, the Phantom's love for her intensifies, leading to a series of dramatic events.
Raoul, played by Patrick Wilson, is Christine's childhood friend and the new patron of the opera. He rekindles his relationship with Christine, which incites the Phantom's jealousy and sets the stage for a tumultuous love triangle.
