Long Distance Voyager, the tenth studio album by The Moody Blues, was released on May 15, 1981, on the group's Threshold record label. This album marked a significant point in the band's history as it was the first to feature keyboardist Patrick Moraz, who replaced co-founder Mike Pinder.

The album achieved considerable commercial success, becoming the Moody Blues' second American number-one album. It spawned two US Top 20 singles on the Billboard Hot 100: "Gemini Dream" which peaked at number 12, and "The Voice" which reached number 15. Additionally, "Talking Out of Turn" reached number 65 on the Billboard Hot 100 but fared better in Canada, peaking at number 27. The album also performed well in the United Kingdom, reaching number 7 on the charts. Beyond the main singles, "Meanwhile" and "22,000 Days" charted on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart at numbers 11 and 38, respectively.

In terms of sales performance, Long Distance Voyager was a commercial triumph. It was certified Platinum by the RIAA in the United States, signifying sales of over one million units. In Canada, it achieved 3× Platinum certification for sales exceeding 300,000 units. The album also earned a Silver certification in the United Kingdom for sales of over 60,000 units.
