The Longest Yard is a 2005 American sports comedy film directed by Peter Segal. The movie is a remake of the 1974 film of the same name. It features a mix of comedy and sports drama, with a focus on American football.

The story revolves around Paul Crewe, played by Adam Sandler, a former professional quarterback who finds himself in prison after a series of bad choices. In prison, Crewe is coerced by the warden, played by James Cromwell, to assemble a team of inmates to play against the prison guards in a football game. The warden hopes that the game will be an easy victory for the guards, but Crewe sees an opportunity to rally the inmates and stand up against the oppressive prison system.

To build his team, Crewe recruits a diverse group of inmates, each with their own set of skills and quirks. The film also features notable actors such as Chris Rock, Burt Reynolds, Nelly, and many others. Burt Reynolds, who played the lead role in the original 1974 film, makes a cameo appearance as Nate Scarborough, a coach and mentor to Crewe.

As the inmates train and prepare for the big game, the film combines humor, camaraderie, and football action. The climax is the football match between the inmates and the prison guards, with the outcome serving as a metaphor for the inmates' quest for redemption and justice.
