The Hurricane is a biographical drama film directed by Norman Jewison, released in 1999. The film tells the true story of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, a middleweight boxer who was wrongfully convicted of a triple homicide in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1966.

Denzel Washington plays the lead role of Rubin Carter, a talented boxer whose promising career is derailed when he is arrested and convicted for a crime he did not commit. The narrative unfolds in a non-linear fashion, exploring Carter's life both before and during his incarceration.

The film portrays the racial tensions and social injustices prevalent during the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the struggles Carter faces within the criminal justice system. Carter maintains his innocence and, while in prison, he receives support from a group of activists, including Lesra Martin, played by Vicellous Reon Shannon, who helps bring attention to his case.
