Gregg Allman's second solo album, "Playin' Up A Storm," was released in May 1977 on Capricorn Records. It followed the breakup of the Allman Brothers Band in 1976 and marked Allman's transition to a solo career. Produced by Lenny Waronker and Russ Titelman, the album peaked at number 42 on the Billboard 200.
Despite its critical acclaim, "Playin' Up A Storm" faced production challenges due to Allman's personal life and the tensions between himself and Capricorn Records owner Phil Walden. The album's limited initial print run of 50,000 copies further hindered its commercial reach. Nevertheless, the album's "harder-hitting" sound and Allman's strong songwriting earned it praise from critics and solidified his reputation as a talented musician.
