The End of the Affair is a 1955 British-American romantic drama film directed by Edward Dmytryk and based on the novel of the same name by Graham Greene. The movie is set in London during World War II and follows the story of Maurice Bendrix (Van Johnson), a writer who has an affair with Sarah Miles (Deborah Kerr), the wife of a civil servant.
The film explores the intense and complex emotions involved in the love affair between Maurice and Sarah. As the story progresses, Sarah suddenly ends the affair without explanation, leaving Maurice heartbroken and confused. Desperate to understand why Sarah left him, Maurice hires a private investigator, Albert Parkis (John Mills), to uncover the truth.
