The Canterville Ghost is a 1996 television film directed by Sydney Macartney and based on Oscar Wilde's 1887 short story of the same name. The film stars Patrick Stewart as Sir Simon de Canterville, a 400-year-old ghost haunting Canterville Hall, and Neve Campbell as Virginia "Ginny" Otis, a teenage girl who moves into the estate with her American family and befriends the ghost rather than fearing him.
As Ginny grows close to Sir Simon and learns of the curse binding him to the hall, she sets out to help free his spirit, while also navigating a budding romance with the Duke of Cheshire. The film also stars Cherie Lunghi, Edward Wiley, and Donald Sinden, and was filmed on location at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire, England. Runtime is 92 minutes.
