Released on September 28, 1990, Texasville is the atmospheric and long-awaited sequel to the 1971 cinematic masterpiece The Last Picture Show. Directed by Peter Bogdanovich and based on the 1987 novel by Larry McMurtry, the film reunites the original ensemble cast, including Jeff Bridges, Cybill Shepherd, Timothy Bottoms, Cloris Leachman, and Randy Quaid. Set in 1984, thirty years after the events of the first film, the story returns to the small, dusty town of Anarene as it prepares for its county centennial celebration. The production explores the bittersweet complexities of middle age, focusing on Duane Jackson (Bridges), now a wealthy but heavily indebted oilman, and his feisty wife Karla (played by Annie Potts). The town’s social fabric is upended when Duane's old flame, Jacy Farrow (Shepherd), returns to Anarene following a career in Europe and a personal tragedy. Shifting from the stark black-and-white realism of its predecessor to a more colorful, satirical, and "shambling" dramedy style, Texasville offers a poignant reflection on life’s disappointments, the endurance of small-town bonds, and the inevitable passage of time in the heart of North Texas.
