Stryper's album "To Hell With The Devil" was released on October 24, 1986. It's their third studio album and a landmark release in the Christian metal genre.
The album achieved platinum status, selling over a million copies, becoming the first Christian metal album to do so. This title held strong until P.O.D.'s "Satellite" in 2001. "To Hell With The Devil" reached #3 on the Billboard US Christian Albums chart, showcasing its impact within the Christian music market. The album's success and unique blend of Christian themes with energetic hard rock helped pave the way for a new wave of Christian metal artists.
The album's original artwork caused some controversy. It depicted four long-haired angels (closely resembling the band members) throwing the devil into a fiery pit. This cover was later changed on subsequent pressings to a basic black cover featuring just the Stryper logo and the album title in the center.
