Standing in the Shadows of Motown is a 2002 documentary film directed by Paul Justman, that chronicles the story of the Funk Brothers, the group of session musicians who played on countless Motown hits during the 1960s. Though never credited on the records they played on, the Funk Brothers provided the signature sound for artists like Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, and The Temptations.
Standing in the Shadows of Motown features interviews with the surviving members of the Funk Brothers, along with footage of them performing some of their most famous recordings. The film was a critical and commercial success, winning the Grammy Award for Best Feature Film – Musical and Documentary in 2003.
