Shenandoah's landmark second studio album, The Road Not Taken, was released on January 31, 1989. It is considered the group's most successful album to date. The album spawned a string of hit songs, including three consecutive number one singles on both the U.S. and Canadian country charts: "The Church on Cumberland Road," "Sunday in the South," and "Two Dozen Roses." Other Top Ten singles from the album include "Mama Knows" and "See If I Care." The album reached a peak position of number 6 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums chart. It has been certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), signifying shipments of 500,000 units in the United States.
