Afterglow is the fifth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan. Released on November 4, 2003, on Nettwerk in Canada and Arista Records in the United States, it marked her return to the music scene after a six-year break following the success of her album "Surfacing" and the Lilith Fair festival.
For this album, McLachlan took a different approach to songwriting, composing the songs in her family home before the birth of her child, primarily on piano rather than guitar as she had done in the past. The album was produced by her longtime collaborator Pierre Marchand, with McLachlan co-writing two of the songs and writing the other eight herself.
One of the standout tracks, "Answer," gained further recognition when it was featured in the 2007 movie "The Brave One." Additionally, the song was used in television commercials for the ASPCA, and Sarah McLachlan appeared in person to support the cause.
"Afterglow" received critical acclaim for its heartfelt and introspective songwriting, as well as McLachlan's emotive vocals. The album achieved commercial success, reaching the upper ranks on music charts, including number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.
