Roxanne is a 1987 romantic comedy film directed by Fred Schepisi and starring Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah. The movie is a modern adaptation of Edmond Rostand's play "Cyrano de Bergerac."
Steve Martin plays the role of C.D. Bales, the chief firefighter in a small town. Despite his wit and intelligence, C.D. is very self-conscious about his unusually large nose, which leads to low self-esteem and insecurity. However, he is also a kind and compassionate man loved by the townspeople.
When the beautiful astronomer Roxanne (Daryl Hannah) moves to the town, C.D. becomes instantly smitten with her. Unfortunately, Roxanne is attracted to Chris (Rick Rossovich), one of C.D.'s fellow firefighters, due to his good looks but lacks wit and charm. Knowing that he can't compete with Chris in terms of appearance, C.D. decides to help Chris win Roxanne's heart by feeding him romantic lines and poems from afar.
