Released in January 1978, "Open Fire" marks the debut solo studio album from American guitarist Ronnie Montrose. Following his work with bands like Montorse and vocalist Sammy Hagar, "Open Fire" showcased Montrose's instrumental talents across a blend of jazz, rock, and acoustic influences. Similar in style to Jeff Beck's "Blow by Blow" (1975), the album featured Ronnie Montrose on guitar and theremin alongside Edgar Winter (producer) on synthesizer, Jim Alcivar on Moog synthesizer and sequencer programming, Alan Fitzgerald on bass, and Rick Schlosser on drums.
