The movie Resident Evil, released on March 12, 2002, is an action horror film based on the popular video game series. The story follows Alice, played by Milla Jovovich, an amnesiac woman who, along with a team of Umbrella Corporation commandos, must fight to contain a viral outbreak at a secret underground research facility called the Hive, located beneath Raccoon City. The film borrows elements from the first two Resident Evil video games.
Major actors and actresses include Milla Jovovich as Alice, Michelle Rodriguez as Rain Ocampo, Eric Mabius as Matt Addison, James Purefoy as Spence Parks, and Colin Salmon as James "One" Shade.
