This 1994 Decca release brings together all three of Rachmaninov's major works for chorus and orchestra: The Bells, Op. 35, a choral symphony set to Konstantin Balmont's translation of Edgar Allan Poe; Spring, Op. 20, a rarely performed cantata for baritone, chorus, and orchestra; and the Three Russian Songs, Op. 41. Charles Dutoit conducts the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, with soloists soprano Alexandrina Pendachanska, tenor Kaludi Kaludov, and baritone Sergei Leiferkus. The recording was made in January 1992 at Memorial Hall in Philadelphia and produced by Michael Woolcock. Total running time is approximately 63 minutes.
