Pat Benatar's sixth studio album, Seven the Hard Way, was released on October 30, 1985, by Chrysalis Records. This album marked a departure from her previous rock-oriented sound, incorporating elements of pop and synth-pop. Despite the stylistic shift, the album debuted at number 26 on the Billboard 200 and spawned three singles: "Invincible," "Sex as a Weapon," and "Le Bel Age." "Invincible," a Grammy Award-nominated track produced by Mike Chapman, was featured in the film The Legend of Billie Jean. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA.
Seven the Hard Way was Benatar's last album to feature bassist Donnie Nossov, who later joined Lita Ford's band. Drummer Myron Grombacher, who also played on Seven the Hard Way, would later reunite with Benatar for her album Wide Awake in Dreamland.
