Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events is a 2004 dark comedy film based on the popular children's book series of the same name by author Daniel Handler (writing under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket). The film was directed by Brad Silberling and stars Jim Carrey, Emily Browning, and Liam Aiken.

The movie follows the misadventures of the three Baudelaire siblings: Violet (Browning), Klaus (Aiken), and Sunny (played by Kara and Shelby Hoffman). After their parents are killed in a mysterious fire, the children are placed in the care of their distant relative, the evil and conniving Count Olaf (Carrey), who is only interested in obtaining the family fortune.

As the story unfolds, the Baudelaire children encounter a series of unfortunate events, including botched attempts to escape from Count Olaf's clutches and run-ins with various eccentric characters. Along the way, they discover clues about their parents' past and uncover a sinister conspiracy that puts their lives in danger.

The film is known for its quirky and macabre aesthetic, as well as the standout performance of Jim Carrey as the despicable Count Olaf. It received generally positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success, grossing over $209 million worldwide.
