The 1989 biographical drama Lean on Me is the true story of Joe Louis Clark, a determined and unorthodox principal, played by Morgan Freeman, who takes on the challenge of transforming the failing, drug-infested Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey. The film, which is an inspirational and highly searchable drama for audiences interested in educational reform and true-life stories, follows Clark's controversial methods to raise student test scores and save the school from a state takeover. Directed by John G. Avildsen and produced by Norman Twain, the movie also features major actors and actresses including Beverly Todd and Robert Guillaume. Released on March 3, 1989, Lean on Me was a box office success, earning $31.9 million globally against a $10 million budget.
