Absolute Torch and Twang is the third studio album by k.d. lang and the Reclines, released in 1989 by Sire and Warner Bros. Records. Produced by Greg Penny, k.d. lang, and Ben Mink, the album was recorded and mixed at Vancouver Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia, and marked lang's breakthrough with mainstream country and pop audiences following her earlier work with producer Owen Bradley.
The twelve-track album combines original songs, including Pullin' Back the Reins, co-written by lang and Mink, with covers of Willie Nelson's Three Days and Wynn Stewart's Big Big Love. The Reclines lineup on the record notably features Greg Leisz on steel guitar. Absolute Torch and Twang won the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and is regarded as a landmark of the alternative country genre.
