Chinese Democracy is the sixth studio album by the American rock band Guns N' Roses, released on November 23, 2008. It was the band's first studio album in 15 years, following their previous release, "The Spaghetti Incident?" in 1993. The album went through a tumultuous and highly publicized development process, with numerous lineup changes and delays, primarily led by the band's frontman, Axl Rose.
The album's musical style combines hard rock, industrial rock, and elements of alternative rock. It features Axl Rose as the sole original member of the band, accompanied by various session musicians and former members of Guns N' Roses. The songs on "Chinese Democracy" tackle themes of personal struggles, relationships, and social issues.
"Chinese Democracy" debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, selling approximately 261,000 copies in its first week. Despite its strong debut, the album's sales declined rapidly in the following weeks. Overall, it was met with mixed reviews from critics and faced challenges in resonating with the general public. However, it did manage to achieve some chart success, with the lead single "Chinese Democracy" reaching number nine on the Mainstream Rock chart.
