Ghost Story: Turn of the Screw is a 2009 two-part adaptation of the classic 1898 horror novella "The Turn of the Screw" by Henry James. The series follows the story of a young governess, played by Michelle Dockery, who is hired to care for two orphaned children, Miles and Flora, at a remote country estate in the late 19th century.
As the governess settles into her new position, she begins to see ghostly apparitions of a former valet and a former governess, both of whom are now deceased. She becomes convinced that the ghosts are trying to possess the children and she must protect them at all costs.
The mini-series explores the themes of psychological manipulation, the power of suggestion, and the ambiguity of reality. It also delves into the complex relationships between the characters, including the governess and the estate's housekeeper, played by Sue Johnston.
The series was praised for its atmospheric setting, strong performances, and its faithful adaptation of the source material. It was also noted for its effective use of suspense and ambiguity, which kept viewers guessing until the very end.
