Released on September 3, 1996, by Capitol Records, Venus Isle is the third studio album from virtuoso guitarist Eric Johnson. Following the massive success of his 1990 breakthrough Ah Via Musicom, this ambitious project took over five years to complete, reflecting Johnson's legendary perfectionism and meticulous attention to tone. The album showcases his unique "violin-like" guitar sound and fluid technique across a blend of fusion, blues, and world-music-influenced rock. While featuring several vocal tracks like the spiritual "Battle We Have Won," the record is perhaps best remembered for its soaring instrumentals, including "S.R.V."—a heartfelt tribute to fellow Texan Stevie Ray Vaughan—and the smooth, atmospheric "Manhattan".
