Eric Johnson's second studio album, Ah Via Musicom, was released on February 28, 1990, by Capitol Records. It's a critically acclaimed instrumental rock album known for its focus on melody and clear guitar tones, rather than heavy shredding.
The album achieved commercial success too, reaching No. 67 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and staying on the chart for a total of 60 weeks. All four singles released from the album charted on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, with three reaching the top 10: "High Landrons" at No. 31, "Righteous" at No. 8, and the Grammy-winning "Cliffs of Dover" at No. 5. "Trademark" also reached No. 7 on the chart. Further solidifying its success, Ah Via Musicom was certified Platinum by the RIAA.
