Inspired by true events and set in a sleepy southern town, Dog Days of Summer is a poignant mystery-drama that explores the end of innocence. The story follows adult Phil Walden as he returns to his deserted hometown and recalls the fateful summer of his youth when a mysterious stranger named Eli Cottonmouth (Will Patton) arrived in town. Eli charms the community with a proposition to build a scale model of the town for an upcoming celebration, enlisting two young boys, Philip and Jackson, as his "eyes and ears."
As the boys use Eli's ancient camera to capture vignettes of small-town life, their childish wonderment slowly turns to despair as they uncover the hidden sins and unravelling lives of those they love. Directed by Mark Freiburger and featuring powerful performances by Will Patton, Devon Gearhart, and Colin Ford, this film is a atmospheric exploration of redemption, forgiveness, and the painful nature of growing up.
