Opus X is the eighth studio album released by the Canadian rock band Chilliwack. It was released on September 1, 1982, and marked a significant transition in their musical style. The album was produced by Bill Henderson, the lead vocalist and guitarist of the band.
Opus X showcased a departure from Chilliwack's earlier blues rock sound, incorporating more elements of pop and new wave. It featured a mix of catchy hooks, synthesizers, and layered harmonies, which gave the album a more polished and radio-friendly sound.
The album's lead single, "Whatcha Gonna Do," became a major hit for Chilliwack. It reached number two on the Canadian Singles Chart and number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. The song's success helped propel Opus X to become one of the band's most commercially successful albums.
Despite the popularity of "Whatcha Gonna Do," Opus X as a whole didn't achieve significant chart success. The album peaked at number 45 on the Canadian Albums Chart but didn't make it onto the Billboard 200 in the United States.
