Chicago is a 2002 musical film directed by Rob Marshall, based on the 1975 Broadway musical of the same name by Bob Fosse and Fred Ebb. The movie tells the story of two women, Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Roxie Hart (Renée Zellweger), who are both incarcerated in the Cook County Jail in Chicago in the 1920s.
Velma is a vaudevillian performer who is accused of murdering her husband and sister after catching them in bed together, while Roxie is a wannabe performer who is accused of murdering her lover when he threatens to leave her.
While in jail, both women hire the same lawyer, Billy Flynn (Richard Gere), who is known for his ability to manipulate the media and turn his clients into celebrities. He takes on their cases and turns them into a sensational media event, leading to a battle for the spotlight between the two women.
The film features several memorable musical numbers, including "All That Jazz," "Cell Block Tango," and "Razzle Dazzle," and won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for Zeta-Jones, and Best Art Direction.
