Chalk is a 2006 independent comedy film directed by Mike Akel and written by both Akel and Chris Mass. The movie is a mockumentary-style portrayal of a school year in the lives of several teachers at Harrison High School, a public high school in Austin, Texas.
The film follows the lives of several teachers, including the enthusiastic and optimistic Mr. Lowrey, the sarcastic and burned-out Mr. Stroope, the naive and inexperienced Ms. Reddell, and the strict and demanding Coach Webb. Through their daily struggles and interactions with students, colleagues, and administrators, the film presents a humorous and often poignant portrayal of the challenges faced by teachers in modern American public schools.
"Chalk" features a cast of mostly unknown actors, many of whom were actual teachers or students in Austin, lending the film a sense of authenticity and realism. The film received positive reviews from critics and won several awards at film festivals, including the Audience Award at the 2006 Austin Film Festival.
