Bright Eyes is a 1934 American musical drama film directed by David Butler and starring Shirley Temple in the lead role. The film follows the story of a young girl named Shirley Blake, who is orphaned after her father dies in a plane crash. Shirley is taken in by her uncle, who works as a janitor at a private aviation school.
Despite the difficult circumstances of her life, Shirley remains optimistic and upbeat, finding joy in singing and dancing. She forms a close bond with one of the pilots at the school, played by James Dunn, who becomes a father figure to her.
The film is notable for featuring several classic songs, including "On the Good Ship Lollipop," which became one of Temple's signature tunes. The film's success helped to cement Temple's status as a child star and established her as one of the most popular performers of the era.
