This Is Big Audio Dynamite is the debut studio album by the British band Big Audio Dynamite, and was released on November 1, 1985. The album showcased the innovative musical stylings of former Clash guitarist and vocalist Mick Jones and fused rock, dance, hip-hop, and electronic influences.
The album achieved notable chart success, peaking at No. 27 on the UK Albums Chart and reaching No. 103 on the Billboard 200. It was also certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). The album's three singles all made an impact in the UK. "The Bottom Line," released a month before the album, reached No. 97, marking their lowest charting single. However, the follow-up single "E=MC²," released in 1986, became their best-selling single and only Top 20 hit, peaking at No. 11. The final single, "Medicine Show," also released in 1986, reached No. 29 and became their last single to chart within the Top 40 under the original line-up.
The music video for "Medicine Show," directed by Don Letts, featured former members of the Clash, Joe Strummer and Paul Simonon, as police officers, along with John Lydon of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd.
In 2010, a remastered Legacy Edition of the album was released, featuring a second disc with alternate mixes and versions. Additionally, in 2016, independent vinyl reissue label Intervention Records reissued the album on 180-gram vinyl, ensuring the continued availability of this influential and genre-defying work.
