Pleasure Victim is the debut studio album by the American new wave band Berlin. It was released on September 28, 1982, by the independent record label Enigma Records. The album was produced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars and showcased Berlin's distinctive blend of synthesizer-driven pop and new wave sound.
The album features the band's breakthrough hit single, "Sex (I'm A...)," which became a major success on the Billboard charts. It reached number 62 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped propel the album's popularity. The song's provocative lyrics and infectious synth melodies resonated with audiences, establishing Berlin as a notable force in the new wave music scene.
Following the success of "Sex (I'm A...)," the album's second single, "The Metro," was released. It became Berlin's most well-known song and a staple of their live performances. Although it didn't achieve the same level of commercial success as "Sex (I'm A...)," "The Metro" remains one of Berlin's signature tracks.
"Pleasure Victim" peaked at number 26 on the Billboard 200 chart, solidifying Berlin's presence in the mainstream music scene. The album's success helped establish Berlin as one of the prominent new wave bands of the early 1980s and laid the foundation for their future releases.
