Batman Begins is a 2005 American superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale in the lead role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film explores the origins of the Batman character, and how Bruce Wayne becomes the Dark Knight.
The story begins with Bruce Wayne, a billionaire industrialist, who after witnessing the murder of his parents as a child, leaves Gotham City to train with the League of Shadows, a secret society led by Ra's al Ghul (played by Liam Neeson). The League trains Bruce in martial arts and stealth tactics, but he ultimately rejects their ideology of using fear as a weapon to restore balance to the world.
Returning to Gotham, Bruce assumes the persona of Batman to fight crime and corruption that has taken over the city. He is aided by his trusted butler Alfred (played by Michael Caine) and police detective Jim Gordon (played by Gary Oldman), who are some of the few who believe in his mission. Along the way, Batman encounters several of his iconic villains, including the Scarecrow (played by Cillian Murphy) and the mob boss Carmine Falcone (played by Tom Wilkinson).
