Greatest Hits collects the essential singles and album tracks from the Bangles, released by Columbia Records on May 8, 1990, shortly after the group had disbanded. The collection draws from All Over The Place, Different Light, and Everything, including the hits "Manic Monday," "Walk Like an Egyptian," and "Eternal Flame," alongside the band's cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Hazy Shade of Winter" from the Less Than Zero soundtrack.
The set also includes "Everything I Wanted," previously unreleased at the time, and "Where Were You When I Needed You," originally issued as the B-side to the "Hero Takes a Fall" single. Tracks were produced by David Kahne and Davitt Sigerson, with mixing credits including Joe Chiccarelli, David Leonard, and Chris Lord-Alge.
