Anna Thorvaldsdottir – Aerial

Aerial is the second full-length album by Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir, released on September 30, 2014. The album features six compositions, all written by Thorvaldsdottir, that showcase her unique style of atmospheric, ambient, and often ethereal classical music.  

The opening track, "Aeriality," sets the tone for the album with its soaring strings, shimmering percussion, and otherworldly textures. Other standout tracks include the hauntingly beautiful "Transitions," the rhythmic and percussive "Field," and the ethereal and mysterious "Ro." The album also features a collaborative piece with Icelandic visual artist, Shoplifter, called "Shades of Silence," which creates a multimedia experience that combines music with video and installation art.

Aerial has been widely praised by critics and has helped establish Thorvaldsdottir as one of the most exciting and innovative contemporary classical composers of her generation. The album showcases her ability to create immersive soundscapes that transport the listener to another world, while also demonstrating her mastery of form and structure in classical music.
